Tell Congress: birth control pills are too expensive! As young people of faith, we are committed to accessible health care for all, and especially for the most vulnerable. Right now, there is a birth control price crisis and you can help put an end to it! A provision included in the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 unintentionally eliminated a clause which ensured pharmaceutical companies would offer lower priced contraceptives to hundreds of safety net providers and university clinics. As a result, the average price of birth control at clinics serving low-income and uninsured women and students has increased from between $5 - $10 to $40 - $55. Tell Congress that you demand affordable birth control! Take action >> | Spread the Word About Pill Prices Engage other young adults in the campaign to bring birth control prices down. Some ideas include circulating a petition in your community (download one here), hosting an event (apply for a grant to cover costs), or asking your campus chaplain to write a letter to the editor of your local or school newspaper. Don't forget to contact the SYRF staff with questions and to report on the great work you're doing. | | | | | | SYRFs Up! With pill prices skyrocketing, it is time to take action and make birth control affordable for college students and low income women. Try reserving a table at your student center and ask other students to call members of Congress and urge them to lower pill prices as they pass by. Contact religious organizations on campus and ask them to show support by publicizing your efforts!
I'll be waiting by the phone (and my computer) to answer your questions about this campaign and provide support in any way I can. Don't hesitate to call (202-628-7700 x15) or e-mail (info@syrf.org) me so we can put an end to these high birth control prices!
