TITLE:                                     Coordinator, Spiritual Youth for Reproductive Freedom (part-time) 

DEPARTMENT:                                  SYRF
 
REPORTS TO:                                   Chief Operating Officer
 
DURATION OF POSITION:           August 2010- May 2011
 

JOB PURPOSE:                                 Direct and implement the Spiritual Youth for Reproductive Freedom (SYRF) program, the youth and young adult department of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice. Spiritual Youth for Reproductive Freedom (SYRF) educates, organizes and empowers young people in the religious, pro-choice movement.

 

                                                            RESPONSIBILITIES

    I.      SYRF Organizing: Recruit and support up to 20 college campus-based organizers to help them increase sustainability and impact in their communities.  

    II.      Training and Support: Support and assist SYRF organizers in their states and regions and integrate SYRF organizing into their program activities.

   III.       Technical Support:  Maintain contact with SYRF organizers, hold regular conference calls, maintain the website and social media tools, and help integrate SYRF work with organizers work in their states..

   IV.      Fundraising: Help write grant proposals that would support the program, write funding reports, and represent the SYRF program at related meetings. 

    V.      Public Policy: Support the work of the public policy department by helping to implement campaigns into organizers work, include advocacy information and messaging on campus, and comply with all grant work as outlined for the youth and young adult program.                                                               

    VI.      Education and Advocacy: Develop youth and young adult faith-positive messaging and educational materials to effectively educate young people about pro-choice issues. 

   VII.      Leadership Development: Organize meetings, trainings and calls to build the leadership, communication, and advocacy skills of SYRF organizers.  

   VIII.      Outreach & Partnerships: Serve as a liaison between SYRF and religious youth and young adult organizations and student-oriented pro-choice organizations and programs.

   IX.      Contributes to the team effort: Share religious, youth, and grassroots organizing perspectives with the staff.

     X.      Grantor: Review applications and provide mini-working grants to folks looking for support doing SYRF related outreach and educational events

 
                                                           

JOB DESCRIPTION

Organizing

I.        Maintain and update resources for organizers and members

II.     Provide support, ideas, and problem solving strategies for campus organizer events

III.  Review and process mini-working grants for SYRF related work by organizers and others

 

Communications

I.        Maintain and update website and social media presence weekly

II.     Write a SYRFCast email 2-3 times per semester

III.  Communicate regularly with the organizers via list-serve, emails & conference calls

 

Reporting

I.        Provide progress reports and updates to staff from the field

II.     Maintain a working relationship with Development staff, in particular for grant proposals/reports

III.  Track all events and maintain an online calendar on SYRF website

 

   QUALIFICATIONS

-          Minimum of 2-3 years organizing experience around reproductive choice, health, grassroots organizing and/or religious organizing

-          Strong commitment to progressive politics and women’s’ rights

-          Religious or spiritual affiliation preferred

-          Excellent organizational and time management skills

-          Goal and Task oriented team player

-          Proven experience mentoring young adults and future organizers

-          Online communication experience required with social media and website maintenance

-          Ability to think strategically and maintain organization voice

-          Bachelors Degree or higher preferred
