The Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice (RCRC) is seeking passionate, enthusiastic, and articulate student organizers at colleges and universities across the country to serve as ambassadors for the Spiritual Youth for Reproductive Freedom (SYRF) program during her or his university tenure.
Students may have the opportunity to receive class credit and a $1,000 stipend for eight months of student organizing per academic year ($500 per semester). Students will be expected to devote roughly six hours a week to SYRF organizing.
A candidate for this position must demonstrate a strong commitment to reproductive freedom and to religious expression.
An ideal candidate will:
- Have experience leading student organizations.
- This includes experience planning and promoting student events, an ability to work with other student leaders, good organization skills, and the ability to plan for the longevity of the organization beyond their leadership.
- Be knowledgeable about or connected to student resource offices, other student organizations, Greek organizations, religious organizations, or resources in the surrounding community.
- Demonstrate knowledge of current events surrounding reproductive rights and religion, on state and national levels.
- Be able to communicate verbally and in writing with students, staff and faculty, community members, clergy, elected officials, the media, and the staff of local RCRC affiliates and the national Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice.
- Be able to communicate their spiritual and religious beliefs and be affirming the diversity of spiritual backgrounds from which SYRF students come.
- Understand the range of reproductive freedoms SYRF addresses and acknowledge the interconnections between reproductive freedom, religion/spirituality, and other social justice issues.
SYRF is an established, national youth and young adult program organized by the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice. SYRF leaders are responsible for reporting to the local RCRC affiliate in his or her area and the national SYRF program coordinators.
Interested students should direct their questions and a resume to Emily Goodstein by e-mail at info@syrf.org.
