Be a Sexuality Education Superstar

We're announcing a very special project to let the world (or maybe just a few key decision makers) know that young people of faith support comprehensive sexuality education.

To participate in our online jaunt, do the following:
1. Take a picture of yourself holding a sign that says "I AM [INSERT FAITH TRADITION or the word SPIRITUAL or AGNOSTIC] AND I SUPPORT COMPREHENSIVE SEX EDUCATION."
2. Ask a few friends to participate, also. Help them make their signs and take photos.
3. Create a profile on the SYRF online community if you're not a member yet.
4. Upload your photo to the "photos" section of your profile.

Your photo will be used in a short video SYRF is creating to showcase youth and young adults speaking out about sex education. We will then post the video on our website, Facebook, Flickr, and You Tubebanner (read: if you send us a photo, you will become famous) and send it to your elected officials in an effort to spread the word to decision makers. To learn more about comprehensive sex education, click here.

If you think that's fun, consider also signing our petition to support comprehensive sexuality education.

We really want to include people from specific target states in our project. Please share this with friends (especially those in California, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Idaho).

Thank You, Mark Zuckerberg
We have just installed a nifty feature on the SYRF.org community.  You can link your SYRF profile with your Facebook profile.  We are just loving the social networking possibilities of this new link and hope you'll give it a try.  Here's how to get the new SYRF.org Facebook badge on your SYRF profile:
  1. Log onto the SYRF.org community.  If you have yet to build a profile, click here to do so.
  2. Click on "My Profile" on the left side of the screen.
  3. Click on the "Edit" button at the bottom of the "About Me" box.
  4. Follow the instructions in the "Visit Me on Facebook" section at the top of the page and choose the specifics you'd like to display on your SYRF profile.
  5. Marvel at the wonders of the spiritual pro-choice movement and technology.

SYRF's Up!

We've had lots of reasons to celebrate around our office in the past few weeks.

The inauguration
of our new pro-choice president was an exciting, busy, historic, and very cold time in the nation's capital.  I was able to attend the festivities on the Mall and was thrilled to see so many other young people there, too!

My sister and brother-in-law also welcomed a new baby into our family (Olivia Abigail was born on February 6).  Olivia's birth has strengthened my commitment to ensure the world in which she grows up is a just one (complete with comprehensive sex education in schools and access to honest and affordable reproductive health care).

In addition, our online community is almost one year old and we're showing it off with our newest web campaign.  When you're done reading the February SYRForecast, won't you become a Sex Education Superstar?  It is quick, easy, and important.

Lastly, we're celebrating the planning and implementation of a second successful season of Regional Training Institutes (we'll see some of y'all in Texas!).  Thanks to everyone who participated or presented at a training and a special thanks to SYRF Program Coordinator Josh Fixler, for his hard work on the trainings, too!

See you on SYRF.org,
Emily

Tell Us!
Have you planned a fabulous event about faith and reproductive justice?  Did you come across an interesting article you agree or disagree with?  Are you in need of some spectacular SYRF keychains (they are also bottle openers and shaped like surf boards)?

Tell us!  Josh Fixler (SYRF Program Coordinator) and I have profiles on the SYRF online community and are eager to hear from you.  Send us a quick note (I am SYRFerEmily and Josh is SYRFerJosh) or post something juicy to your profile.
