Money, Money, Money

Although I am a proud member of the Millennial generation, I seem to share music taste with many Baby Boomers.  One of my favorites from the '70s is the Abba classic Money, Money, Money (recently repopularized by the musical Mamma Mia!).  So, on a related note, I am going to spend some precious SYRForecast real estate plugging the SYRF Program Grant Initiative.  Here's a list of reasons why you should apply for one today:
  1. Grants are easy to apply for!  Just complete an application here.
  2. It is December, which means this is a PERFECT time to begin planning for 2009.  Apply for a program grant today, have funding for spring semester events tomorrow.
  3. Program grants can be used for any expenses related to events about faith and reproductive justice for young adults (space rental costs, food, publicity, speaker fees).
  4. You'll receive a special letter from the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice on beautiful letterhead.
  5. You'll also get a box full of SYRF goodies including pens, pins, stickers, and more assembled by the famous SYRF Program Coordinator, Josh Fixler.
  6. Haven't you always wanted to host that funky event on your campus incorporating the distribution of free condoms and an appearance by campus clergy but never thought you could afford to?  This is your chance!
  7. If you want to apply for a grant but first need to spend some time brainstorming about your event idea, we can set up a phone date.  I am not kidding.
  8. It is possible that the student association or program committee at your school may not fund events about reproductive choice...and we ONLY fund events about reproductive choice.  Problem solved!
  9. Grants can be used for community events that engage teens or young professionals, too.  Imagine the possibilities.
I feel that ending the list at #9 is appropriate as we prepare for 2009...so I'll leave it at that.

SYRF's Up!

Young adults not only voted in record numbers during this election, we
participated in the campaign in larger numbers than ever before.  We are now poised to effect major changes on issues of reproductive justice and need your help to do it...so, I'll keep this short.

You know the SYRF program and the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice.  You know what we do and how we do it.  If you are as motivated to effect change in this country as we are, consider sparing some change for...change!
We really need it.

I know you may not see yourself as major  donor to our program, and there are many other causes you care about, but even a small contribution can make the difference as our fundraising for 2008 draws to a close.

Regional Training Institute

We're still accepting applications for the Washington, DC, and Austin, TX, SYRF Regional Training Institute (RTI)!  Our San Francisco training was a fabulous experience for over 30 SYRFers and received rave reviews. My favorite quotes from the evaluations included a note from on participant exclaiming "I would watch Robin and Emily paint a room, they're so captivating and charming..." (thanks, mystery training participant, you've made my Google Chat away message)!

Sexuality Education Advocacy Training

You guessed it!  SEAT is the Sexuality Education Advocacy Training.  SEAT is an annual collaboration between the Unitarian Universalist Association, the United Church of Christ, Advocates for Youth, the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, and us!

The 5th annual SEAT will be held on March 21-24, 2009, in Washington, DC.
SEAT teaches youth, young adults and adult allies how to be effective advocates for comprehensive sexuality education through workshops on community organizing, advocacy and anti-racism/anti-oppression. The four-day training is a great way to become more involved in advocacy and to lobby on Capitol Hill.

Applications are now available on-line at uua.org/SEAT. Apply today to be a part of this exciting training.
