A project of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice

Dear SYRFers,
I am writing with a Spiritual Youth for
Reproductive Freedom (SYRF) update! SYRF
has been very busy since the Student Summit in
Washington earlier this month. In addition to adding
several new features to our website (find
out more below), I recently returned from the
Unitarian Universalist General Assembly (UU
GA) in St. Louis.
My time at the GA was truly fabulous—the UU
community was welcoming and supportive of the
Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice.
I also helped to lead a workshop along with
Meredith Schonfeld-Hicks from the UU DC office
all about youth and young adult organizing in a
spiritual and pro-choice context. There were
several enthusiastic activists in the audience who
were eager to get SYRF organizing happening on
their campuses or in their home congregations.
The Student Summit left us energized and ready to
continue SYRF related activism in campuses across
the country. A big thank you goes out to all the
speakers, presenters, and RCRC staff who made the
conference possible. Find out more about the
2006
SYRF Summit in our newly launched SYRF blog here.
Please read on to find out about ways you can (as
always) put your faith into action for
reproductive
justice. E-mail me at info@syrf.org with
questions, suggestions, or if you’d rather
not receive our SYRForecast e-mail updates.
All the best,
Emily Goodstein, SYRF Program Coordinator

Blog Launched
if you couldn't make the summit...
...You can read about it online! Our first guest
bloggers, Melissa, Gracie, and Andrea , got
the blog off to a fantastic start. The blog now
boasts an article written by former RCRC intern (and
SYRF Summit participant) Jessica Arteaga,
about her
time in DC and a return to Washington during the
Summit.
We are always looking for other guest
bloggers, so
e-mail us with
story ideas.

SYRF Chapters Now Forming
Do you have one on your campus?
Students and young adults across the country are in
the process of forming new SYRF chapters
and we
want YOU to get in on the spiritual pro-choice
action.
There are three main ways to get involved with
SYRF: start or join a chapter on your campus,
through your congregation, or help your existing
campus group become an affiliated SYRF chapter.
Affiliated chapters need not change names or titles,
simply become affiliated with SYRF and use our
programming resources!
Check out our newly updated SYRF Organizing
Guide online to learn more about SYRF chapters
and ways to get involved!

What people are saying...
about the 2006 SYRF Summit
“Thank you for the wonderful experience I had during
the Summit! This was the best organized event I’ve
ever been to and I feel that I learned a lot while
having a wonderful time. Thanks!”
“This was a WONDERFUL conference and it helped to
motivate and insure me to remain strong in the
struggle for justice. I loved the reproductive justice
approach. It was also so helpful that the Summit was
low-cost. I loved the diverse array of people. This
has helped inspire me to keep reproductive justice at
the center of my ministry. Thank you."
"So much information! Loved the resources, loved the
speakers, loved gaining the language to discuss
these things intelligently."
