Q: Do you have to be religious to get involved in SYRF?
A: Most SYRF members are either part of an organized religious faith group / denomination or have personal spiritual feelings and beliefs. All pro-choice people (ages 16-30), regardless of their faith background (or lack thereof), are welcome to participate in SYRF. We value religious liberty and do not proselytize.
Q: My faith is not a member of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice but I am both religious and pro-choice. Am I welcome to participate in SYRF and other Religious Coalition programs?
A: Absolutely. There are probably many individuals from your faith who are also involved our work. Sometime faiths are pro-choice but have not gone through the steps to become an official member organization of the Religious Coalition. Other times, faithful individuals cannot in good conscience support the anti-choice positions of their faith's governing bodies. We offer a safe place for all pro-choice people of faith to feel welcome and put their faith into action for choice.
Q: I am already involved in another pro-choice organization, what is the value of also getting involved in SYRF?
A: SYRF presents important ethical, religious, and moral perspectives that the other pro-choice groups do not address. Because the Religious Coalition values cooperative relationships with our allies, we encourage our SYRF members and chapters
to work in coalition with other groups and put faith into action for choice with us.
Q: What resources are offered through SYRF?
A: The Religious Coalition helps SYRF members find pro-choice religious speakers for campus events, provides funds for SYRF projects, offers free materials about religion and reproductive choice, provides training and technical assistance, invites youth and young adult participation in pro-choice listserv networks, provides internship and networking opportunities, and prepares young people for careers in social justice and advocacy.
